Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are ideal for walking around the neighborhood or running. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver, even in tight spaces.
For a smooth ride, opt for a pram with air-filled tyres and look for models with a 360deg front swivel wheel. However, they are prone to punctures so be prepared with a repair kit.
Sturdy frame
Figures have just been released showing that the three-wheeled buggy which was a symbol of the decade of more money than sanity is on the verge of disappearing. Four-wheelers have replaced them, and are more versatile and easier to drive and look stylish.
The basic rule is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with rough ground and bumpy pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back also makes it much easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn and a 3 year old and found that it was able to handle grass, cobbles, rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. 3 wheeled pushchair noted that it was solid to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. The tyres, that are inflatable and need to be pumped up occasionally and have a suspension built-in. It was extremely comfortable for my children.
The size and shape of the seat is another thing to consider. The seat should be large enough to allow your child to be comfortable and allow them to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies come with the option of lying flat that lets your child face you, while other buggies only allow a face-to-parent one.
The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and walking in muddy areas. The buggy can be used as a one-person unit from birth and then adapts to take two children when your family grows. It is suitable for infants and toddlers up to age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, improved 5-point harness, and a large padded seat unit. The storage options are great as well, with a large basket, zip pockets on the hood and an easy-to-access pouch on the rear of the seat unit.
Wheels with a larger diameter
Larger wheels give your buggy more stability when driving on rough terrain. This is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. Additionally, they help you maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies come with swivel wheels on the front to aid in maneuvering around tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock for increased speed and stability. This is particularly useful when you crash into the kerb or a tree. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to keep it from hitting it.
Many 3 wheel pushchairs feature air-filled tyres. This means they can handle a variety of terrains and are much more flexible than 4-wheeler. They're also lighter. They are more prone to punctures, and you'll need to have a repair kit and spare inner tube on hand.
Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo lux are among our favorite 3-wheelers. Both of these buggies have larger wheels that, according to MFM reviewer Kath, "perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles" and can easily climb and descend kerbs. They also come with a suspension system that according to her "smoothes out bumps very effectively".
The downside of having larger wheels is that they can make some buggies quite wide and can struggle to fit through narrow spaces. This is problematic if you intend to use it as a jogger, or need to fit through doorways that are narrow when on the move. Luckily, most models have small folding options that let you take off the front wheels for more compact storage.
Easy to maneuver
One of the main benefits to a three-wheeled buggy is that it's much more maneuverable, especially with a child in the back. The way they are built means that the front wheels turn at a whim and are incredibly easy to manoeuvre which makes them perfect for difficult terrains like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tested a 3 wheeler with her infant and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a pleasure to maneuver over tough ground with the swivel rear wheel being especially helpful. I was also impressed with how well it handled kerbs with the hand-operated break. It was very stable for descending or on uneven terrain."
The only drawback to this great maneuverability is that the three wheel buggy's larger wheels do sometimes mean that it can struggle in tight spaces - something to consider if you live in a city region. If this is a problem then a 4-wheel buggy may be better for you.
Bumper bar

Bumper bars are the ideal method to shield your child from scrapes and bumps while out and about. They are quick and easy to install and make your child feel safe and secure whilst out on the town or tackling tough terrain.
Designed to complement the sleek lines of the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller, this bumper bar features a soft and padded surface that offers a comfortable spot for your child to hang on to while walking. The robust construction and durable design will ensure that your child will be comfortable strolling around town without worrying about falling or leaning forward.
The fabric sling sits snugly within the frame, not on top like the seat that is modular. This provides a lower centre of gravity for your infant at the ideal height, and also offers great weight distribution, making it easier to push over curbs (it is much easier to push the stroller up and over than you think). MFM reviewer Kath found it to be able to deal well with cobbles and grass and is a great choice for jogging with its lockable swivel front wheel and air filled tyres.
This bumper bar will make heads turn wherever it's used. It has a classy and elegant design. Available in a range of colours and finishes and designs, it can be tailored to fit your style. The bumper bar can be removed and installed using a quick-release mechanism. The bumper bar is easy to clean, as it is constructed from strong materials. This makes it a great option for families that want an elegant and safe accessory for their stroller.
Comfort
A 3-wheel buggy is the best off-road vehicle to maneuver and performance. With perfect geometry and weight distribution, this type of buggy can be able to turn at a moment's notice and be a breeze to steer using just one hand. All Mountain Buggies are tested to the same rigorous stability standards and tests as 4-wheel buggies.
Designed with fabric sling seat placed snugly within the frame, not on top of it like modular seats, the Sport's clever design allows it to have a lower centre of gravity at the right height for your child - giving you a more comfortable push, a lighter curb pop (you don't need as much weight or effort to pop the hood of your buggy up and over a curb) and better balance and stability. With the massive 16'' rear wheels with lockable swivel wheels on the front and tyres filled with air that require just a few pumps, you get a bump free ride over rough terrain and a smoother and more comfortable jog as well.
As the only pushchair that is all-terrain in our collection that comes with a parent-facing seat that can also accommodate a carrycot or car seat, you can future proof your family and enjoy every moment of your day and into the future - all within the footprint of one buggy!
It's not the only reason to adore this buggy - our MFM reviewer Kath was amazed by how big it is too. There's a nimble, large basket that is surprising spacious for a vehicle that's this big. Plus, there's also a handy pouch on the back of the unit, as well as two smaller mesh pockets beneath the hood to keep your keys and phone.
